  • Discovery loses mainmast in Solent

    20/07/11

On Saturday 16 July, the mast on Discovery a 43 Seastream belonging to the Discovery Sailing Project based in Hamble broke and had to be cut clear by the RNLI lifeboat crew from Calshot. Miraculously nobody aboard Discovery was injured, but a tremendous amount of damage was caused both above and below deck. The mast wreckage was sunk in the solent by the RNLI and the yacht escorted back to the mouth of the Hamble.

Disruption to the remaining Discovery sailing programme might impact on earlier planned Visually Impaired sailing opportunities and people are advised to watch the news section of the website where more information will be posted when it is known
